Landmark & Special Trees of Epping Forest District

We want to find our Landmark trees from all across the District and publish the results here. This may be because of their age, or because they have some special quality, association or character of their own. In other words there is a story to tell about what makes them special.

Please note that this doesn't protect the trees legally. It's purely a voluntary scheme. However our experience is clear: owners of trees who are proud of them and who know that they are valued by the community are far more likely to look after them and to ask for help if they need it. In turn, we will do our best to give owners of landmark trees the best advice, if they need it.

Trees are special for many different reasons - almost as many as there are people who care about them.

Now, whatever the reason, we are creating a way to record and celebrate these special trees on this website.

What we are mainly looking for is trees with great stories attached. So far we have helped to coordinate projects to find and recognise special trees in Roydon, Loughton and Theydon Bois. But if you know a special tree, please let us know about it. If there is a really great story, we'll put it on this website too!
